Robert Manning Obituary

Robert Shane Manning, 56, formerly of West Liberty, Ky., died Sunday, March, 31, 2024, at his home in Houston, Tx. due to related heart issues.

Mr. Manning was born on June 29, 1967, in Bowling Green, Ky., the son of the late Robert Julian and Natalie Stacy Manning.  He was a graduate of Morgan County High School.  He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master’s Degree from Morehead State University.  Last year, he had acquired his Real Estate License and was affiliated with Keller Williams.  He was looking forward to a new career after  his retirement from the education field next year.

As an educator, Mr. Manning started his teaching career at Crockett Elementary School in Morgan County, Ky. After four years, he left to teach in Florida, Connecticut, and Houston, Texas, where he finally made his home.  In the Texas school system, he worked as a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and finally a testing coordinator for his district.

Mr. Manning was baptized on April 25, 1976 at First Baptist Church, West Liberty, Ky. by Brother Bob Bottoms.  As a child and young man, he attended Sunday School, Church and Royal Ambassadors with his Uncle Richie Stacy as his teacher.  When Shane was older, he taught Sunday School and Royal Ambassadors.  He was always interested in helping children learn at school and at Church.

His love for travel ignited from his summer job as an Activities Director on Holland American Cruise Line.  This turned into a two-year world tour as a Cruise Director.  He visited around 100 countries and the majority of the states in the United States. He enjoyed sketching pictures as he traveled and collecting wood carvings, artwork and glass works.  He loved to be busy with his hands working in the garden or building Adirondack chairs.  He believed in living life to its fullest.

Shane never met a stranger.  He was out-going and friendly, always telling stories to make people laugh. He will be greatly missed by all his many friends and family.

Survivors include his husband, Roderick Martin; one son, Steven Martin-Manning of Houston, Tx.; one sister, Stacey Manning Williams (Tommy) of Clarksville, Tn.; one brother, Julian “Jody” Manning of Lexington, Ky.; Three nephews, Tristan Daniel, Colby Gevedon, and Micah Williams.  One Niece, Olivia Williams; Three Great nephews, Cooper Daniel, Dixon Daniel and Liam Gevedon and two great nieces, Macey Daniel and Sunny Rae Miller.  One Uncle, John Lee Stacy (Barbara) and Aunt, Jeanette Stacy of West Liberty, Ky and many cousins and friends.
