Obituary for Lowell H. Ferguson

Elder Lowell H. Ferguson of West Liberty, KY, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018 at his daughter’s residence, at the age of 94 years, 4 months, and 2 days. He was born Wednesday, June 25, 1924, at Moon, KY, son of the late Willie N. & Della Keaton Ferguson.

Lowell was in united in marriage to Erma Skaggs. This union was blessed with five children, Gary, Jerry, Joey, Anthony, and Angela. After his first wife’s passing, he later married Elsie Hamilton Ferguson. He was a retired Pipe Fitter and was also the Pastor of Open Fork United Baptist Church. Lowell was baptized on January 28, 1951. He was Licensed to preach in May of 1956 and then ordained as a Preacher in October 1956. He became the Assistant Pastor of Open Fork United Baptist Church in December of 1959 and became the full time Pastor there in 1983 until his death. He will be deeply missed by all his family, friends, church members, and brothers & sisters in Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Erma Skaggs Ferguson; his second wife, Elsie Hamilton Ferguson; two sons, Anthony Ferguson and Gary Ferguson; and eight brothers & sisters, John Martin Ferguson, Lexie Fraley, Anon Ferguson, Ernest Ferguson, Burl Ferguson, Sally Esta Ferguson, Maxie Ferguson, and Zelda Ferguson.

He is survived by three children, Jerry & Penny Ferguson of Elkfork, KY, Joey & Charlene Ferguson and Angela & Emerson Ferguson all of West Liberty, KY; two daughters-in-law, Shennie Marcum Ferguson of Breedin, WV and Teresa Ratliff Ferguson of Morehead, KY; sixteen grandchildren, Stephanie Owens, Gary Michael Ferguson, Tonya Ferguson, Carra Ferguson, Jeremy Ferguson, Megan Adkins, Scotty Adkins, Chris Ferguson, Scotty Ferguson, Rodney Ferguson, Amanda Cantrell, Danielle Grigsby, Alexis Ferguson, Brian Ferguson, Brandon Ferguson, and Bobbi Jo Havens; nineteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Reeda Barker of Lexington, KY.

Funeral service 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 29, 2018 at the Open Fork Church, with Elders James Wallin, Joey Ferguson, Tim Porter, Willis Estep, and Joe Carroll officiating. Burial to follow in the Anthony Ison Cemetery, Moon, KY. Visitation after 6:00 p.m., Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the Funeral Home.
