Obituary for Nannie Mae Howard

Nannie Mae Curran Howard of Amelia, OH, formerly of West Liberty, KY, quietly passed away Friday, November 9, 2018 at the home of her daughter Valarie Pelfrey, in Amelia, OH, at the age of 89 years, 6 months, and 2 days. She was born Tuesday, May 7, 1929, at Bethel, KY, daughter of the late Grover Cleveland & Myrtle Lee Richards Curran.

Nannie was united in marriage to Winfred Howard on October 4, 1947 in Carlisle, KY. This union was blessed with three children whom they were very proud of, Sharon Darlene, Valarie Lynn, and Timothy Curran. She was a retired school teacher and a member of Broadway First Church of God in West Liberty. She was a Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent for many years, Vacation Bible School Director, Church Choir Director, Organist, and played the piano when needed. For many years, she prepared the church bulletin, also decorated the church for the different seasons until declining health caused her to pass that on to other Sisters and Brothers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Howard; seven brothers whom were very dear to her, Jesse Ray Curran, Herman Shaftner Curran, Grover Cleveland Curran, III, William Lawrence Curran, Edward Roberts Curran, Everette Allen Curran, and Oscar Buntin Curran.

She is survived by two daughters and one son, Sharon Darlene & Jerry Haney of West Liberty, KY, Valarie Lynn & Freddie Pelfrey of Amelia, OH, and Timothy Curran & Tiffany Howard of Rowan County, KY; seven grandchildren, Tamara Darlene & Wallace Hensley, Regina Lynn Pelfrey (David Perry), Lisa Susanne Pelfrey (Mike Schnell), Michael Zachary & Misty Haney, Drew Curran Morgan Howard, Tanner Weston Howard, & Mason Lee Howard; three great grandchildren, Brack & Jada Hensley, Branson Clay Haney, RaeLynn Brook Haney; two great-great grandsons, Zayden Lucas Hensley and Zachariah William Hensley; and several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Funeral service 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at the Potter Funeral Home, with Rev. Karl Elam & Elder Dan Hittepole officiating. Burial to follow in the Lacy Creek Church of Christ Cemetery, Lacy Creek, KY. Visitation after 6:00 p.m., Monday, November 12, 2018 at the funeral home. Visitation will be held from 5-6 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2108 at the EC Nurre Funeral Home in Amelia, OH.
