Obituary for Leota Ferguson Sherman

Leota Ferguson Sherman of West Liberty, KY, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at St. Claire Regional Medical Center, at the age of 83 years, 6 months, and 13 days. She was born Thursday, April 18, 1935, at Moon, KY, daughter of the late William Anthony & Pearlie Adkins Ferguson.

Leota was united in marriage to Floyd Sherman. This union was blessed with two children, Beverly & William. Leota started her career as a school teacher and taught for a couple of years. She retired as a social worker where she was a supervisor for the Buffalo Trace District. She was always volunteering and contributing with her children’s school activities such as being a band parent to being a member of the Morgan County Quarterback Club. Leota was a member of the inaugural organizing committee of the Morgan County Sorghum Festival, where she held various positions including Committee Chairman. She was also a Co-Founder and former President of the Morgan County ARH Auxiliary and a former chairman and member of the West Liberty Tourism Committee which she helped in the planning and development of Old Mill Park. She was also a member of the Morgan County Woman’s Club, she served on the West Liberty Planning & Zoning Committee and the West Liberty Board of Adjustments Committee, and was a member of the West Liberty Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William Floyd Sherman; one sister, Mary Mandy Ferguson Hill; and two brothers, Clyde Ferguson and Curte Ferguson.

She is survived by her loving husband, Floyd Sherman; her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Sherman Ryan & John of Lexington, KY; a special niece, Marjorie Ratliff & Steve of West Liberty, KY; three grandchildren, Shaun Laungani & Kelly, Lindsey Beth Noblin & Matt all of Lexington, KY, and Wes Ratliff of West Liberty, KY; one great grandson, Marshall Laungani; sister-in-law, Erma Dryden Ferguson of Lexington, KY; a host of cherished nieces & nephews and great & great-great nieces & nephews; and a special caregiver, Shelia Jones.

Funeral service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the West Liberty Christian Church, with Bro. Hunter Fraley and Elder Jerry Brown officiating. Burial to follow in the Paint Valley Memorial Gardens, Crockett, KY. Visitation after 5:00 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Potter Funeral Home.

Pallbearers: Tommy Hill, Curte Ferguson, Todd Ferguson, Robert Ferguson, Keith Sherman, Marty Bradley, Wallace Clay Rose, Kent Nickell, Edwin Brown, and Brock Litteral.
