Obituary for Melissa Lyon Francis

Melissa Lyon Francis of Georgetown, KY, formerly of West Liberty, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at Dover Manor, Georgetown, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 11 days. She was born Thursday, August 29, 1935 at Salyersville, KY, daughter of the late Hassel & Bertha Caudill Lyon.

Melissa was united in marriage to Arcus Francis. This union was blessed with four children, Elaine, Pam, James Henry, and Marcia. She was a talented Seamstress, making many of her children’s clothing when they were young, several wedding dresses and bridesmaid dresses, and Sorghum Queen Court dresses. She was a loving mother and grandmother and leaves behind many family & friends to mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arcus Francis; her son, James Henry Francis; her daughter, Marcia Francis; two sons-in-law, Joseph Charles Russell & Mark "Hobo" Jackson; and three sisters, Betty Lou Reed, Rebecca Clubb, and Junious Lyon.

She is survived by her two daughters, Elaine Russell & Pam Jackson, both of Georgetown, KY; nine grandchildren, Robert Scott Bradley & Tammy, Jackie Nicole Shaver & James, Joseph Charles Russell, Jr., Joni Jackson Cook & Michael, Santana Francis Bobrowski & Nick, Misty Lynn Haney & Zach, Brandon Arcus Hutchinson, James Mason Francis, and Magnum Corey Francis; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Southwell “Dick” Lyon & Beulah of Louisa, KY, Samuel Lyon of Salyersville, KY, and William Lyon & Cindy of West Liberty, KY; & one sister, Mae Helton of Royalton, KY.

Funeral service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Potter Funeral Home with Bro. Delbert Coffey officiating. Burial to follow in the Nickell Cemetery, Matthew, KY. Visitation 6 p.m., Friday, August 11, 2017.
